Victorian Bracket Clock by J.J.Elliot £1,950

A good quality Victorian bracket clock by the much respected maker James Jones Elliot, working from 1886 in Clerkenwell London, amalgamating with Grimshaw and Baxter in 1911.

Simply styled mahogany case using the best ‘flame’ veneer to the front, satinwood stringing and classic base and top moulds.

Round convex silvered dial with roman hour numerals, and surrounded by the original cast brass bezel. Moon style hour and minute hands.

The very well made, double fusee chain driven, movement with thick brass plates and many signs of quality manufacture, runs for 8 days and strikes the hour and half hour on a gong.

The firm of JJ Elliot made very good quality bracket clocks at a time when competition was fierce, with many imports of inferior clocks from the continent, these clocks would have been expensive by comparison to those imported, but popular due to their far superior quality.

Height 13.5 in., Width 9 in., Depth 7 in., Dial 6 in..
