James Skipton of Cirencester £SOLD

A very pretty painted pine longcase by James Skipton, a Cirencester maker.

The pine case, now painted in a pale green, has many attractive mouldings to the trunk door, base, and top. The hood having a flat top and separate columns. The base with shaped apron and further mouldings.

Again, a pretty dial featuring flowers to the corners and a folly scene in the upper centre. Original matching blued steel hands.

A typical 30 hour movement striking the hours on a bell.

Standing 6 foot 9 inches tall.

Makers Information

James Frederick Skipton was working at several addresses in Cirencester between the dates of 1820 and 1854. This clock dates to about 1840.
