John Evan of Aberystwyth £4,650

An attractive and simple 8 day longcase clock by John Evan of Aberystwyth, from the early 18th. century.

The square brass dial featuring a silvered chapter ring with hours and minutes engraved on to the surface, together with the makers name. Further seconds dial and calendar box, with some pretty engraving surrounding. Original non matching blued steel hands.

Simple cottage style oak case with very little decoration, except for its small original caddy top, separate hood columns, long trunk door with shaped top, and plain base.

6 foot 5 inches high.

Makers Information

John Evan is listed as working in Aberystwyth in 1720 and this clock is probably dated about 1735. There were not many clockmakers in Wales in the early 18th. century
